Counting rounds of the mahamantra
In the Hare Krishna (Gaudiya Vaishnava) tradition, the whole mahamantra is chanted once on each bead, so one tap here is one full mahamantra. One trip around a 108-bead mala is called a round. Many initiated devotees keep a vow of 16 rounds a day, and many beginners start with one to four.
The malas today box below counts your rounds. At the end of each round the bell rings, the beads reset, and the next round begins.
Tips
- Chant clearly enough that you can hear the words yourself.
- Early morning is traditionally the best time.
- If you lose count on a physical mala, this page keeps the number for you.

Usually about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on pace.
Is there an app?
